ANITA TESORIERO

Anita Tesoriero's interest in the central universal routines and experiences of the everyday has been informing her practice for the past decade. Her work re-engages us with the relevance of the ordinary and the aesthetic potential of the commonplace and immerses the viewer in the familiar whilst simultaneously providing them with an intimate vantage point from a distance. In Anita's work the painterly and the cinematic are explored. Her skilful configuration of space and deft control of light transform the ordinary, rendering for the viewer the vitality and possibilities of the everyday.

Her paintings reflect an assured impressionistic facility, a mastery of the subjective restriction of her palette and the confident animate brush marks which build the work fuse together as an exciting visual language in scenes that are highly accessible and atmospheric. In Asphalt to Ocean Anita presents us with a series of persuasive new works that convey the sensory life of the everyday. Her capacity to capture the quiet tableaux of individual worlds that co-exist within our day to day life is compelling. These works convey experiences that are both proximate and remote.

They reveal a poetic understanding of both the quietness and clamor of public spaces and re-present to us familiar sites and experiences: the shimmering blur and heat of the beach and the discreet geometry of the city. Within these works an anonymous figure or casual group are carefully choreographed interacting with one another or in private dialogue with their surroundings, framed by an architectural structure or in a loose interplay with the rowdy energy and pulse of the beach. Whilst her work is understated and modest, within each cropped pictorial space the dramatic possibilities are endless.
