I am driven to paint by my everyday experiences and observations. That is, basically, what I experience as an artist living in contemporary Australian society. I am not trying to change the world. I am just reacting to what I see and how it influences and affects me and others around me. Sometimes I capture moments and sometimes I tell stories. As I paint, one painting feeds off another and, although my response varies in terms of form and colour, always there is an underlying consistency, because at the heart of my painting is a commitment to developing my own symbolic language. This language manifests itself in different ways but always it is there.

I was born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1980 and came to Tasmania with my family in 1987. I completed my tertiary study at UTAS (Hobart Campus) and graduated with a Master of Fine Art (Research.) in 2005. Also in 2005, I won the Moorilla scholarship, funded by MONA. In 2007 I was awarded an artist in residence studio at St Vincent’s Hospital in Melbourne. I lived in Melbourne from 2007 to 2009. I am now back living and working in Hobart. My work is in public collections, such as TMAG and Devonport Regional Gallery. I have been a finalist in several prestigious national competitions, such as the Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship (Sydney) and the Fletcher Jones Art Prize (Geelong).
