NG Art Gallery is thrilled to announce the return of artist Jane Gillings with her new exhibition Museum of Unnatural History opening on Wednesday 3 December. What better way to end the year, than with a brilliant display of pop coloured detritus from the renowned and frequent Sculpture by The Sea finalist!’
The Museum of Unnatural History is Gillings’ recognition of the human acceptance of unnatural materials, which have accumulated through our daily life. From the rubbish, packaging, toys and spare parts we throw away or inevitably loose, Gillings collects and constructs to evoke a future that may not be so far from the truth. The balance between the impermanence of nature and the face of ‘everlasting plastic’ is explored in her collection of artificial specimens.
