ABOUT MIA NG
"I write to express my mind and paint to set forth my ideas that is all. Anyone who judges painting by form-likeness shows merely the insight of a child"
Su Shi
Moments and memories of fleeting travels within Australia and abroad are captured in this series of intimate works. Captivated by the spirit of a place, these works seek to grasp at the immediacy, momentary freedom and reverie of discovering and exploring the changing world.

Mia Ng, an emerging young Australian artist, meets her landscapes with curiosity and paints them with a quiet contemplation, yet so much depth. Her paintings reveal wonder at the beautiful places she encountered in her travels, and stored in tiny canvases, as if she tried to take those moments home with her in her pocket. So small and quaint they are, like private pleasures that instil in their viewer the strong spirit of the vast landscapes that inspired their creation. They are so powerfully personal, so imbued with desires and longings; they are like beautiful little jewels of the heart.

It has always been a human need to freeze time, to conquer death by mummifying life through its representations, through art. Immortalization has been art's craft since its very beginnings, but Mia Ng goes further by immortalizing not places or people, but feelings, the fleeting moments of life. Her images are tinted with a faint nostalgia for a world that is constantly changing, withering and dying with the relentless passage of time. Mia Ng's tiny paintings are the desire to keep a memento of its passing, an anchor for a time long gone by. All that is left are the paintings, and the feelings that enshroud them.
